Sam is not only an accomplished artist who has painted numerous celebrities but also the owner of the Soho club and gallery 'Jazz After Dark'. Over the last 5 years Amy Winehouse has been a frequent patron of Sam's club and a very close friend of Sams. Sam is very proud to have been such an important part of Amy's life and was devastated when she died.

Sam Shaker was born in Cairo, Egypt . The father of three grown up children, he owns and operates 'Jazz After Dark', a popular music club and art gallery in Soho, London.

Sam is a huge Picasso fan and studied art and graphic design at the 'Leonardo da Vinci Academy' and was awarded a diploma in Fine Arts. Soon after, he left his native Cairo for Paris to pursue a career as an artist.

After years of sporadic success - and nearly starving to death - he left art behind, albeit temporarily, to launch and operate 'Jazz After Dark'.

It was at 'Jazz After Dark' that an encounter with Kate Moss spurred him to create again. She commissioned him to paint her portrait, the London media took notice and Sam had quickly established his reputation as a celebrity artist. Sam met Amy Winehouse long before the singer achieved International fame. She came to his club, not being able to even afford the £3 admission and he told her she could pay next time! Over the years, their friendship grew and Amy called Sam 'Her Second Dad'.

'She was creative, kind, talented and a very genuine person. She loved art, music and writing and never forgot her friends and people like me who gave her a helping hand in her career. She was very loyal to me and never commissioned any other artist to paint her portrait.

Supporting the Amy Winehouse Foundation

Sam Shaker has agreed with Mitch Winehouse to support the Amy Winehouse Foundation. A percentage of the profits from stretched canvas prints sales of Amy Winehouse will be paid to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
